Depression

- Description

Depression is a disorder in which someone experiences feeling constantly down and hopeless. This often affects one's day to day life, mood, and relationships. 

 

People with this disorder tend to struggle with having motivation to complete tasks or take care of themselves. This in turn can further one's feelings of hopelessness, inadequacy, and insecurity.

 

- Symptoms

  • Constant mood swings

  • Feeling numb to the world around you and/or yourself

  • Sleeping too much or too little

  • Lack of appetite

  • Loss of interest or enjoyment of things that used to be fun or interesting

  • Self isolation

  • Loss of motivation

  • Negative self worth

  • Derealization (feeling like you're detached or disconnected from your surroundings)

  • Depersonalization (feeling like you're detached or disconnected from your own body)

- Coping Mechanisms

  • Meditation

  • Exercising regularly

  • Journaling/keeping a diary

  • Developing a daily routine and sleep schedule

  • Exploring new hobbies and activities

  • Setting goals for yourself (for instance, cleaning your room/living area, finishing a drawing, or practicing an instrument for a certain amount of time a day)
